Today I’m happy!

It should have been a terrible day, one of those that make you tremble just by thinking about them, asking yourself if you’ll ever reach the end of it, if you’ll manage to face it without any nasty surprises, and just wishing it was already over… And now, while I’m writing, everything has passed, I’m very tired but happy, and everything went well, actually everything went great, I managed to do everything and I was even rewarded.
To make a long story short, this morning I had a work date after having dropped off the girls at the nursery, then another binding work date after picking up the girls and taken them to their sisters’ (lunch included), today that Laura, aged five and finally able to have her glorious moment, was going to be in the school play as Reindeer n°6 after three years of silent parts, but I…wouldn’t be able to make it! So on with the preparations for the big event: a few days previous I borrowed a video camera from our uncle, I begged Chiara to film her sister, I prepared the “elegant” uniforms that the girls had to wear, I organized the whole house so that everything would be easy for the girls, I even reminded Gran to go see the show. Today, feeling a bit sad, I left the house to get to work with my motorbike so I could run off as soon as I’d finished and try to maneuver like a centaur among the roman traffic. It all went well, I got to the theatre safe and sound and even managed to watch the last ten minutes of the play, and see (to say I heard would be exaggerating) Laura’s last line and wave to Elisa, who started waving back like mad from the stage as soon as she saw me. But the biggest happiness, the one which filled my heart, was to see the older girls (even Silvia) sat in the front row, filling in for me and supporting their little sisters until the end, not letting them feel alone. Well, I said to myself seeing this, – how great that maybe my girls will never be alone! – and there I was, as happy as ever, my efforts and stress paid off , my guilt for not being there vanishing as soon as I understood that I had valid substitutes and that love and affection would never be missing in our house! It’s easy to feel happy again, yesterday I was in despair and today…you said it! I’ve still got many more episodes like this to go through, but thinking about today will stop my heart from sinking.
Oh, I was forgetting the recipe, happy and quick (a trait that we need these days) that is good served cold as well, it’s some tasty chicken hamburgers with a courgette in disguise, I always try and this time it went well.
